Japan Karatedo Itosukai Sri Lanka is officially affiliated with the Itosukai Headquarters in Kanagawa, Japan, and recognized by the Sri Lanka Karatedo Federation under the Ministry of Sports.
About Us
A Recognized Traditional Karate School in Sri Lanka
Since its establishment in 1990, Japan Karatedo Itosukai Sri Lanka has grown from 60 students to over 2,000 members across 28 dojos in 7 provinces. We are directly affiliated with the Itosukai Headquarters in Japan and recognized by national sports authorities in Sri Lanka.
Heritage
History of Itosu-ryu
Origins from Shuri-te
Itosu-ryu traces back to Master Sokon Matsumura and was formalized by Master Anko Itosu (1830–1915), a pioneer of modern Karatedo.
Lineage & Evolution
Passed on through Kenwa Mabuni, Ryusho Sakagami, and now Sadaaki Sakagami, the 4th Soke of Itosu-ryu.
Global Recognition
Itosu-ryu is the only Karate organization recognized by the Japan Kobudo Association.
